Designed to attract bluebirds, and deter sparrows. Your local bluebirds will feel right at home when you put out this Kentucky style, slot entrance house.
Approved by the North American Bluebird Society, this bluebird house is designed to deter sparrows. Some studies have shown that bluebirds prefer a slot entrance to the standard circular hole entrance and sparrows prefer the opposite. Also, sparrows tend to avoid shallow homes so the Sparrow-Resistant Bluebird House was constructed to be only 5" deep and includes a wooden insert to adjust the depth to a mere 3-1/2". Sparrows will avoid this depth, but bluebirds will still occupy the house.
The western bluebird has the smallest range of the three native bluebirds. The wintering and breeding grounds include the eastern corner of British Columbia south to central Mexico. The eastern border can be visualized as a line between Montana’s northeastern corner to Texas’ southwest corner.
The eastern bluebird is by far the most widespread North American Bluebird. Its huge geographic range extends from Canada’s southern provinces in the northern limit to as far south as Mexico and Honduras in Central America. The rocky mountains delineate the western border.
